So this weekend I traveled down to San Antonio to go to UTSA's inaugural game and party like it was 2005! (Haha I love college) I knew going in that the game would be madness but I had no idea the level of love and support the city of San Antonio would show UTSA. It was something I will never forget and something I am so glad I got to experience. There are not that many people that can say they went to their school's first ever football game!!

We arrived downtown around 930 to begin tailgating for the game at 1. The level of excitement in the air was magnetic. Everywhere you looked downtown there were people in UTSA shirts and it was so lovely to see an entire city blanketed in blue and orange. My friend Laura was saying how emotional she was seeing everyone decked out in UTSA gear and I have to agree. Throughout my 4 years there all I saw were people in Texas State, A&M, or UT shirts and it drove me crazy! UTSA has always had a pretty good athletics program and good school spirit but people would still wear other schools shirts and it drove me mad. It warmed my heart to see nothing, and I do mean nothing (minus the 100 Northeastern fans at the game), but blue and orange everywhere!

The tailgating situation was not as crazy as I expected because a lot of people were kind of late in arriving. I think people just weren't sure how tailgating works yet. Haha. We did get to see some of our peeps we haven't seen in forever and drink and enjoy the best that UTSA tailgating had to offer. I would like to mention that during tailgating we met up with a man whose 10 month old son was decked out in UTSA gear. Apparently the grandpa, dad, and older brother were all graduates or current students of UTSA, LOVED that! Anyway, after melting in the sun for a couple of hours and partaking in some yummy margaritas we finally made our way into the stadium.

The only way I could describe the vibe in the stadium is by saying it was madness, complete and total madness, and I loved it. People were chanting and screaming and generally just having a good time. Everywhere you looked people were hugging and running around and just enjoying making history! I was very proud of most of my class of folks from UTSA (pretty much anyone there from 01-08) because we were out in full force! We pretty much paid for that football team with our tuition and we were not missing this game!
The game, oh what can I say about the game?!?!?! We whooped that ass! I don't mean any disrespect to anyone but people kept talking about how Northeastern State beat their last team 43 to 0 and I guess they expected them to do that to us. They walked out on the field like some cocky motherf*ckers who couldn't wait to show us what was up and have us lose our first ever football game. Boy were they wrong. The easiest way to sum up the game is as follows...

1. We won the coin toss
2. We scored 3 touchdowns on our first 3 posessions
3. Our defense is undeniably great
4. We whooped that ass.

For a minute there I was hoping we would get to play a kind of close game but we pretty much blew them out of the water. I think it kind of just boils down to them underestimating the team. I would think anyone that plays college football wouldn't underestimate Larry Coker, the man that coached the Hurricanes to a national championship game, but what do I know! Not only did we whoop that ass but we broke a record for biggest attendance at an inaugural game. We had somewhere around 56,743 people there on game day and the record was around 49,000. So yeah, we didn't just break the record, we shattered it. After the game a little reunion of sorts was set up at a bar downtown and I got to see even more people I hadn't seen in forever and it was just so much fun!!!!

I do feel like I need to take a moment to clear something up for some folks. Yesterday my friend retweeted something someone she follows said basically saying that UTSA fans were being tacky by saying we were "Still Undefeated". I guess us having shirts that say that was rubbing it in every other football teams face that they have losses and we don't. UM, OK?! That is literally one of the dumbest things I've heard in a while. For those of you that don't know, UTSA has had those shirts around forever. We aren't making fun of anyone but ourselves! We didn't have a football team and everyone else did so we made shirts that said "still undefeated" because HELLO, of course we are undefeated we haven't played anyone!! A lot of people were saying that the day of the game because how much longer will we be able to say it? Of course at some point UTSA will lose a game and it was just nice to be able to say that one last time. It was just a cute little thing that UTSA does. OK, rant over.
All in all I truly enjoyed myself this weekend in San Antonio. I've never felt so much love for my school and I've never been so happy to be a Roadrunner. I have and will rep UTSA until I die because I had one of the best experiences of my life there. I met some of my best friends at UTSA and learned so much while there. I can't imagine having gone anywhere else and I was so happy to see all the people that traveled back there to support our runners on their first ever football game. So until next week I'm going to bask in the glory of UTSA football and everything they did this weekend. I love you UTSA, I love you Larry Coker, I really love you #92 (he's my boyfriend he just doesn't know it), and to everyone else...FEAR THE BEAK!
