Don't Tell My Achy-Breaky, Football Loving, Heart!

So when I first started this blog I did it with the intention of just being a fun, random, visit to Brittanyland, also known as, the craziness inside my head. I think these last few posts have really let yall in and I hope you've enjoyed the crazy. Today's visit to Brittanyland is brought to you by the NFL and Billy Ray Cyrus. Two seemingly unrelated topics but both have annoyed me in their own special way this week and it's only Wednesday! So let's get to it!

So the Billy Ray Cyrus GQ article was released this week. You can catch most of the good stuff on Just Jared if you care to see the rest of it. I have copy and pasted the two parts that stood out to me below.

On rumors that the family profited from Miley’s work: “For the record, to set it straight, I want to tell you: I’ve never made a dime off of Miley. You got a lot of people have made percentages off of her. I’m proud to say to this day I’ve never made one commissioned dollar, or dime, off of my daughter.”

On being scared for his daughter: “I’m scared for her. She’s got a lot of people around her that’s putting her in a great deal of danger. I know she’s 18, but I still feel like as her daddy I’d like to try to help. Take care of her just a little bit, to at least get her out of danger. I want to get her sheltered from the storm. Stop the insanity just for a minute.”

First let me say, kudos to him for realizing he pretty much sucked as a parent when dealing with miss Miley. Just because your child is a child/teen star doesn't mean you aren't the parent. I mean look at Dakota Fanning and the Olsen Twins. I mean Mary Kate had her issues but aside from an eating disorder, which could happen to anyone, perfectly normal children. I remember seeing the Olsen twins on a talk show once saying they got 50 dollars a week in allowance and that was only if they did their chores. So it is possible to still be in charge when your kids have money. I think once your child is 18 and running wild you've pretty much missed your chance to control them. I also find the timing of this article to be suspect. He's obviously taking a jab at Miley's mother with that first statement and it's really uncalled for. I don't think he would be speaking out if they weren't going through a divorce.

At this point it is what it is. I don't really think comparing your child to dead celebrities is the way to accomplish anything. Later on in the interview Billy Ray goes on to say that he feels Miley is heading down a Kurt Cobain, Anna Nicole Smith, Michael Jackson path and her life will end that way. REALLY Billy!?! Well, I think you're heading down a Michael Lohan path and that's so much worse. If you have issues with your daughter take them up with her, not in a public forum.

Now onto the NFL, where to begin? I have refrained from speaking out about this lockout because in my heart of hearts I was hoping it wouldn't happen. I also, was hoping the Colts would make history and get to play the Super Bowl in their home stadium :) but I suppose that's neither here nor there. However, this week it seems that tensions are rising between the owners and the players.

Look at that face; he just looks like an ass.

That, my friends, is Jerry Richardson. Who you ask? Jerry is the owner of the Carolina Panthers and now number 3 on my list of assh*les. I won't tolerate smack talking about Peyton Manning. I simply won't. Peyton Manning is one of the most respected quarterbacks to ever play the game and arguably the best as well. By all accounts he's kind, reserved, hard working, and stays out of drama. So why Jerry felt the need to call him out with insults this week is beyond me. They owners and players had a little pow wow and apparently no one told Mr. Richardson it was supposed to be a grown up chat not a sass fest. According to the Huffington Post here's what went down.

"[Richardson] was extremely condescending to them, especially toward Peyton," a source said. "[Richardson] was the only person on either side who was contentious. Everybody else was respectful. They might have said, 'I disagree with your point,' but at least they were respectful. [Richardson] was not."
Apparently, Richardson was particularly sarcastic when Manning started to talk about players' safety. At one point, Richardson evidently said, "What do you know about player safety?"

WHAT DOES HE KNOW ABOUT PLAYER SAFETY?!?!!? UMMMMMMM he's on the field every week playing, I think that pretty much qualifies him to speak on player safety! I mean really? I mean can we try and be grownups here people. Also, going after Peyton is not really a smart move. Considering the man is maybe the most drama free player in the league whenever he does decide to comment on this nonsense or really decide to go after the owners idiocy his opinion will be respected.

I'm also not thrilled with how the owners are portraying this whole negotiation situation in the first place. They want the public to think it's only about money. They want us to feel the players are money hungry when in fact there are more underlying issues. I'm not going to say money isn't a big issue, the players want a share of profits, it's sounding like a 50/50 share, and the owners aren't having it. According to the owners they need more money to offset costs etc... in my opinion this translates to they need more money for stupid things like Jerry's world.

I am from Arlington, so I know how ridiculous that undertaking was and for what? We all know how the Super Bowl in Arlington turned out. Perhaps the owners should try and make less asinine decisions and they could have more revenue.

The major issue on the player's side seems to be the fact that the NFL wants to extend the season to 18 games. Doesn't sound like that much to you well think of it this way; according to the NY Times NFL Blog that's the equivalent of the MLB extending their season by 20 games. Sounds crazy doesn't it? This is what Peyton was talking about when he mentioned that whole player safety thing. In the owners minds longer season=more money because in the end that's what it comes down to for the owners, MONEY. In the end who really knows what shall happen. People keep trying to tell me a lockout won't happen but there seems to be NO compromise from either side. To be honest, I think the players are in the right on this end and while I don't want a lockout I support their decision to protect their rights to fair labor and pay.
