An Ode to Carey & Blake

So every couple of years, since I was about 14, I've picked an actress/model that just kind of inspires me style wise. Not someone that I want to emulate per se but someone whose style inspires me. You know the kind of effortless style that other people try and copy but usually don't get quite right; women that have the kind of style that starts a fashion movement. In high school it was Mary Kate Olsen and in college it was Sienna Miller. Oh, Sienna Miller, the girl basically started a fashion trend with her style. I will always have a special place in my heart for her. In my early to mid 20s it was anything 50s Jackie O, Grace Kelly etc... I still take things from all of these people and incorporate them into my style on a daily basis. Recently I've found myself looking at a whole new generation of actresses that never really caught my eye before. A lot of leading ladies are stepping up and really taking risks when it comes to style. Carey Mulligan and Blake Lively have been the focus of most of my fashion lust lately and so this post is an ode to them and their style.

Carey Mulligan- I admit, I had no clue who she was until she started dating Shia Lebouf. The first time I saw her I thought she was super cute and I loved her haircut. I'm a sucker for a pixie cut; probably because I could never pull this off myself! Anyway, lately she's just been getting it right with the looks she's been putting together for the red carpet. I'm sure she has a stylist but it still takes a certain amount of personal style to choose a dress that you like but that's also flattering. It also takes a special person to pull off a red then blonde pixie cut. From what I've seen of candid pics from her she seems to have a cute style of her own as well.

I just think she's adorable and whenever she's on the red carpet she just seems to have a kind of effortless style. She also always seems to be smiling which is something I LOVE!! Too many actresses, i.e. Kristin Stewart, Mischa Barton, Jessica Alba etc..., are always scowling whenever you see them. I mean smile damn it! You're rich, pretty, and people love you, I don't see what there is to scowl about?! Anyway, I just think she's lovely and very deserving of a post in her honor and as if she wasn't awesome enough she's going to be Daisy Buchanan!

By now I think it is common knowledge that I'm OBSESSED with Blake Lively. I love her, actually let me say that again; I LOVE HER! I mean her sister is Teen Witch so she obviously comes from good stock! HA! Aside from that the girl has style, real, honest to goodness style. I read a quote once that said you're born with style and I definitely think that's the truth. Anyone can follow a trend and anyone can look fashionable but you have to be born with a sense of style and Blake Lively certainly was. Here's the main thing I love about her, she doesn't have a stylist. That's right; she does NOT have a stylist. The girl picks out her own red carpet outfits and that in and of itself deserves some recognition. Since she's blown up there are only 2 outfits I can think of that I didn't absolutely love and even with those they made me think, "hm that could work". I seriously think she missed her calling as the next Rachel Zoe. While being blonde, gorgeous, and having legs that never end makes it easy to wear almost anything I enjoy that she takes risks and can pretty much make almost anything look good.

I mean look at that pic of Blake in France. It's freezing in France and here she is making a big, bulky coat look good, that takes skill. I just really appreciate the way she puts things together and I also kind of get an "I don't care what you think" vibe from her whenever she's on the red carpet. I enjoy people that don't dress to end up on a best dressed list. I actually find it to be incredibly refreshing!

So because I love these ladies and I love their style I decided it would be nice to pay homage to some budding style queens! With Blake becoming the face of Chanel and Carey landing a role that may have been made for her they've both been all over the news. I personally loved making this post because I was able to find tons of pics of the two of them. One could argue it was more fun for me making the post and searching for pics than it will be for yall reading it! :) Irregardless ( yes, I still know it's not a word and no I won't stop using it, God bless Mean Girls!) I hope you enjoy!
