All Signs Point To...Miles Austin

So back story, about two weeks ago the local morning news had a story about Miles Austin (Dallas Cowboys player) having some secret Super Bowl party and he would be tweeting clues throughout the weeks for the parties secret location. Well last week my roommate and I found out the party was to be a playoff party this past weekend. Miles was supposed to tweet clues from his Twitter account all day Saturday and the party would be on Sunday. Saturday rolls around and he tweets one clue about the venue being 2 words 10 letters. That is NO help at all in Dallas but my roommate and I still had a feeling about where the place was so we patiently waited for final confirmation on Sunday from Miles himself.

They had these Droid X phones that are BADASS BTW and they would print out the pics they took of people on them. That's what my roomie and I got autographed. His signature is over her breasts on my pic. Haha.

The party was to begin at 3 and Miles didn't tweet any details about the party until 2:30 that day. Luckily we live less than 3 minutes from the location and arrived in time to get inside. Here is where it starts to get sketchy. It was cold and rainy and everything was set up for people to start going in at 3 when doors open but they didn't let anyone in until around 3:20. Then they tell people that Miles Austin isn't even arriving until 4. Miles advertised on his Twitter that it was free food and drinks for the first 400 people but that actually meant 2 drinks per person. While generous, I feel that should have been specified in the party instructions. Anyway, once inside all the Verizon wireless people (they sponsored the party) assure everyone that Miles is on the way and he will mingle throughout the bar, which is 3 stories, and take pictures/sign stuff for people when he arrives. Here is where I begin to lose patience with the situation.

A picture of Miles from one of the Droid X phones. Such a nice smile for such a dick.

Miles comes and instead of security saying "OK, look, he will spend a little time on each floor then form a line downstairs and sign stuff" they just let him wonder about. It was insane, he was mobbed and people were throwing all kinds of stuff at him. I mean fans had jerseys, giant posters, framed pictures, helmets, action figures, etc... and it just created a lot of unnecessary chaos. So Miles spends about 5 minutes in our section then goes downstairs where he is supposed to eat and then begin taking pictures and signing things for people. The people working the party have us all line up to get pictures/autographs and then this cop walks by to say "Miles doesn't feel like signing anything or taking any pictures so he's done for the day." WHAT.THE.HELL?!?!

I spoke with several Verizon staff that said he was booked for the party and PAID for the party for a certain number of hours and not only did he show up late but he worked the bar for about half an hour of the time he should have. I have a serious problem with this and was actually quite surprised. I heard through the grapevine that he was supposed to be a fairly nice guy but after ranting about my experience on Facebook one of my friends told me otherwise. Apparently him and some of his friends met him out at a bar and he refused to pose for pictures or sign anything for them either. I just find this kind of behavior to be completely unacceptable. I mean one could argue if you're just out by yourself, on your own time, you could refuse but if you're at an event YOU promoted and YOU'RE getting paid for then I think that's an ENTIRELY different situation. I mean athletes get paid a lot of money for what they do and their job has a lot to do with fans. I think his behavior was ridiculous.

In the end I think the event was just poorly planned and Miles is kind of a dick. I mean if you really don't like signing autographs or taking pictures that's fine but don't promote an event TO DO JUST THAT then throw a fit and decide you don't want people bothering you. He ended up going downstairs and having people surround him about 20 minutes after he got there and wouldn't have any pictures taken of him anymore. Then he had the nerve to get on Twitter and be like "thanks everyone for coming out!!" Yeah right Miles. I suppose I should be happy my roommate and I were able to get the autographs/pictures of him we did but still. I'm not a Cowboys fan but I always thought Miles was cute and that he was nice so I kind of liked him but that's pretty much over.

Aside from the behavior of Mr. Austin I had a fun time with my roommate and did enjoy some yummy food and drinks for free. We also met some really cool people and did end up with autographs so that was cool. All in all it was a good Sunday but I definitely have a different opinion of Miles Austin now. I will say while I definitely think he's a dick he is way cuter in person...as long as he keeps his mouth closed and isn't throwing hissy fits! Ha.
